Swastika Anomaly and Ethical Justice

From Los Angeles Times

SWASTIKA?: The buildings, constructed in the 1960s, are on the Coronado amphibious base and serve as a barracks for Seabees. From the ground, or even adjoining buildings, the configuration cannot be seen. Nor are there any civilian or military landing patterns that provide such a view. But Google Earth shows the shape clearly. (Google Earth)

CORONADO, Calif., -- The U.S. Navy has decided to spend as much as $600,000 for landscaping and architectural modifications to obscure the fact that one its building complexes looks like a swastika from the air.

Someone explain to me, would justice be better served by spending $600,000 to ensure that the injured soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan have their medical records transferred promptly from the military to the veterans administration than to spend that money on some ridiculous anomaly? As a member of the Jewish community I see no harm in the Google eye appearance of the buildings which may have been built in such a configuration to meet a functional need. I just wanted to make my feelings known. ..Maurice.

I don't know what the fuss is all about. I am a resident of Coronado and it has always been a curiosity. People fail to note that the building is some 40 years old and that the 2 buildings to the left (you never see those)sort of look like planes. Folk lore says that the planes were attacking the swastika...just one of life's curiousities. No big deal. So why, after 40 years, is such a big deal being made. Perhaps it's another sympton of our society's illness.

Alan, I am also amazed and disappointed with those who have taken the requests for alteration of the structures or associated environment seriously. The revelation of the configuration of the building didn't require the development of satellite pictures or Google. All it took was for the people who constructed the building and those who paid for it to simply look at the blueprints. There was no concern in 1960s and there should be no concern now. For those now who think there was some occult sinister but deliberate attempt to honor the Nazi regime is as out of touch with reality as those who claim the Holocaust never happened. ..Maurice.

My first question is, who were the architects and what
other structures have we paid for? Very disturbing.

PT, why are you disturbed? As long as the intent was for function and not unintended appearance from a satellite, what's the problem. My problem at the time of this news article was unwarranted spending of public money which could be used better in another way. ..Maurice.
