Schiavo case: Federal Courts- No Political Bias but Only the Law?

It appears that the midnight ride of the Congress has brought the Word that the “Federal Courts are coming!” And as those of us who are interested in ethics and the fair analysis of the law, we will await their arrival. I pray now not for Terri, she has plenty of prayers today for her “miracle”, but I pray that the entry of the federal court system into the case will provide a rational decision based only on law and in no way looking one direction or another to find a “politically correct” answer to this common but also needlessly complicated case. ..Maurice.

I am curious as to your thoughts about the judge not taking the request to see this as a de novo action... but appears to my layperson's eyes as just performing an appeal...

I am only a physician and not a lawyer. It would be good if TV and newspapers instead of broacasting so much about the emotions and politics involved in this case also present more information about how the law works and judges judge and how doctors make decisions about diagnoses in patients with altered mental states. ..Maurice.

My question is: Is death by starvation or dehydration really a humane or painless death? Can some one with some medical expertise respond?

Patients in Persistent Vegetative State are said by medical investigators not to be aware or feel pain or discomfort to any noxious stimuli or condition. Patients who are awake and alert (such as a terminal cancer patient) become drowsy and do not report any pain or discomfort. This removal of food and fluid usually occurs in a hospice situation where care is taken to provide comfort such mosit swabs to mouth and lips. ..Maurice.
